Investigators probe NIBP Cuff Garden City house fire

An investigation is underway to determine what sparked a house fire that left four firefighters injured while battling the flames early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.

The Nov. at a home on Andover Court in Garden City. NIBP Cuff Police said a 41 year old man, who lives in the house, began to smell smoke while watching television and peered outside to find his patio swing fully engulfed in flames.

The homeowner reportedly tried to snuff out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but his attempts were unsuccessful and the flames started to quickly spread to the house.

120 firefighters from the Garden City, Mineola, Franklin Square, Garden City Park, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor, Westbury and Carle Place fire departments responded to the scene, police said.

Three firefighters from Garden City suffered non life threatening injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, NIBP Cuff according to a news release. A fourth firefighter from the Westbury Fire Department was taken to the hospital after slipping on a patch of ice and suffering a broken wrist and shoulder injury.
